This December, for the fifth time, the Centre de Musique Ancienne de Sauternes (“Sauternes Early Music Centre”) will be continuing its musical enchantment in the heart of winter, in Sauternes, which is both luminous and captivating thanks to its history, heritage and exceptional light.
“The aim of this year’s musical programme is to create curiosity, links and beauty… Hence the numerous encounters, opportunities created, discoveries to be made involving luthiers, instrumental initiations, conferences, ‘flash’ concerts and all these special moments to be experienced together.” For this fifth edition of the Fêtes Baroques, “the choice of the Orient as the theme will allow the exploration of musical ‘bridges’.” François-Xavier Lacroux, musical director of the festival.
In this context, it was only natural that François-Xavier Lacroux, the festival’s musical director, and Clémence Planty, the owner of Château de Malle, decided to work together to programme this musical and cultural event at Château de Malle, which is currently undergoing a complete renaissance.
The programme
The concert at Château de Malle (45 minutes) is entitled “Au Mont des Oliviers” and will be performed by Les Chantres de Saint-Hilaire with: François-Xavier Lacroux (Latin plainsong), Cécile Larroche (soprano), Isabelle Deproit (alto), Thomas Georget (tenor), Timothé Bougon (baritone), Antonio Guirao (baritone), Ephraim Kahn (Hebrew cantor), Jean-Luc Nardone (reader).
Under the direction of François-Xavier Lacroux, the Chantres de Saint-Hilaire are in permanent residence in Sauternes. An early music ensemble specialising in early French Baroque, they enjoy exploring the vocal repertoire from the late 16th to the 18th century, mostly with a religious connotation. They often venture onto little-explored paths, always seeking opportunities in the art of stirring our emotions.
